Conventions:
- Pictures of the students on the front.
Each of these school magazines has pictures of students taking part in fun activities and competitions to show the excitement and wide range of talent within the school. When selecting the students to show on the front cover, usually they have children of different ethnic backgrounds and different genders to imply that no matter what gender or race you are, you will be successful at this school. This is something that I will look to include in my school magazine cover as it shows equality among all different students in a very successful school.
- Contents are quite neat and well organised.
The contents page in the Chapel High magazine is very informative with a heading for each page in bold writing then a mini description of that page underneath. This one page is extremely important because it really gives the readers an idea of the wide range of activities and success that this school has achieved and will be shown in this magazine. I will have a content page similar to this one however I will try to make it slightly neater so that vital information stands out clearer.
- All show pride in school sports teams etc.
Most of the school magazines will have pictures of successful school teams, be that sports teams or other team activities in school. I will apply this to my magazine as it shows pride within the school and will create healthy rivalries between other school teams.
- All the front covers seem very busy and untidy apart from one.
These front covers that are busy will give readers a lot to look at however I feel it is too busy and will take attention away from vital details. When making my magazine I will keep it simplistic and tidy; however I will still give all information needed and make it a very eye-catching piece. When selecting a model for the front cover I will need to find someone both successful within the school somehow and a good looking, presentable student.
- All have the school logo, normally in the top corner of the page.
Every school magazine will have a school logo in the top corner with a slogan. This is a nice touch as it again shows pride in the school and will mark that magazine as theirs. I will add our school logo in the top corner however I don’t thing WHBS has a school slogan so I might have to make one up.
